A brief report on the 15th Korea-Japan Joint University Summer Conference on Radiological Sciences

The 15th Korea-Japan Joint University Summer Conference was a wonderful opportunity to learn about various recent research projects and broaden my perspective through interactions with clinical and academic researchers, students, and professors from other participating universities. The three-day program, which included research presentations, special lectures, and various activities were very informative and enjoyable.

The research presentations were mainly by undergraduate and graduate students from participating universities in Japan and South Korea and covered various areas of diagnostic radiology, including CT, fluoroscopy, intraoral X-ray, mammography, MRI, etc. One of the prominent topics was the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning models to enhance low-contrast medical images. The development of appropriate mammography phantoms and resolution-enhancement software for intraoral X-ray imaging was also interesting and innovative. Presentations by South Korean students mainly focused on topics such as the evaluation of effective dose distribution for pediatric CT, Korean diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) in cardiovascular angiography, and KAP-based conversion coefficient derivation using Monte Carlo simulation.

The interactive activities, including hiking on Palgong Mountain, visiting the Hanti Catholic shrines, participating in academic quiz games, and attending informal gatherings, provided excellent opportunities to make new friends and learn more about Japanese and South Korean cultures, creating a friendly environment for communication beyond the academic sessions.

Overall, the summer conference held at the Pyeongsan Academy in Daegu was both an informative and enjoyable experience to learn and build academic connections by exchanging knowledge and ideas with students and researchers from different universities,
